Community-led tree planting and environmental conservation to restore degraded landscapes and promote sustainable natural resource management.
Project Overview
Deforestation and land degradation threaten the livelihoods of rural communities who depend on natural resources. The Green Communities Reforestation Project mobilizes communities to plant trees, establish woodlots, and adopt sustainable land management practices.
Activities
- Community tree nursery establishment and management
- Distribution of indigenous and fruit tree seedlings
- Training on agroforestry and sustainable land use
- Environmental education in schools and communities
- Establishment of community forest management committees
Results
To date, over 50,000 trees have been planted across 12 sub-counties, with a survival rate of 78%. Communities are already benefiting from improved soil fertility, reduced erosion, and income from fruit tree harvests.
