By Administrator · 28 Feb 2026

A new digital skills program has trained 200 young people in computer basics, internet safety, and online freelancing, opening doors to remote work opportunities.

RORU's new Digital Literacy Program has successfully trained its first cohort of 200 young people in essential computer and internet skills. The three-month program, conducted at RORU's Youth Empowerment Center in Kampala, aims to bridge the digital divide for disadvantaged youth.

Curriculum

The training covered a comprehensive range of digital skills:

  • Basic computer operations and file management
  • Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Internet navigation and online safety
  • Email communication and professional etiquette
  • Introduction to online freelancing platforms
  • Social media for business promotion

Early Results

Of the 200 graduates, 35 have already secured freelancing contracts on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr, earning an average of UGX 300,000 per month. Another 50 have used their new skills to improve the digital presence of their existing small businesses.

"In today's world, digital literacy is not a luxury — it is a necessity," said RORU's Program Manager. "These young people now have the tools to compete in the modern economy, regardless of their background."
